Volvo Grill Well Nuts Replacement

One of the annoying elements of owning a Volvo is the rubber well nuts used to hold the grill to the hood.

The typical problem is the screws into the well nuts are often over torqued by electric screwdrivers.  This spins the well nuts in the holes wearing the well nut to where is no longer grabs the hole in the fiberglass.

Most of the well nuts are exposed when the hood is opened and grabbing the well nuts with pliers while a helper removes the screws.  But a couple of the well nuts are in blind pockets in the hood fiberglass.  Removing these are a real challenge.

Also the rubber well nuts can age out and no longer have a holding tension.

Good practice is to hand tightened the screws and replace the well nuts ever so many years.

Sibernut (Ron) had come up with a solution for the rubber well nuts.

Ron found these fasteners on Ebay, from Auveco for $ 8.99, 25 in a box with free shipping.  Part # is 21066, fits KIA.

The holes in the hood fiberglass need to be squared out using a small file.

There is a rubber washer on the plastic well nut that needs to be removed so the locking wings of the plastic well nut get behind the hood fiberglass.

Now you will have well nuts to screw the grill in with concern about the rubber well nuts spinning.
