Well, how about this, been working on truck conversion for some time and just about done and now?? Finished bed, installed ET, installed Jackalopee, Blue Dot, etc. Loaded Jeep got all my weights, everything worked great. Message shows up "short in reverse lights". Checked it out, no short, but the trailer lights had bad connection at the bulb. Cleaned that up, but several times when I installed the bulb, it reset the fuse. Started the truck to check things out and "maybe" I turned off key before the transmission shifted all the way out of reverse. Now truck will not start and I still get a short in reverse light message and now the "service" light on the AutoShift is on. I can start the truck at the starter, but it will not shift as service light is on. I tried rocking the truck thinking the slider gears might have bound up still no luck. I don't know truck password to try a reset, or know if I need to. Any ideas? Thanks, Dick |

Try the last 6 of your VIN for the password.
Had a similar problem when building the bed. Had the battery cables connected/disconnected several times. Had the service light come on and the truck would not start. I disconnected the batteries again and let it sit 5 minutes. Reconnected and all was fine. |

Disconnecting the battery will reset everything. Or should |

My password turned out to be just simply 1234 when I was chasing automatic tranny troubles. Have you tried that? |

I had tried unhooking the battery even for 2 hours, I can here the computer restart, still no luck. I checked the wiring, no short, I even back powered the backup lights and they work fine. I unhooked the AutoShift at the console restarted the computer again no luck. I started the truck(again with a remote switch) got my air up, unhooked the 5th, pulled the truck it is not stuck in gear. Might be time for the pros. 100 miles away. Thanks for the try guys |

Hope to be "on the road again"!! I knew, from this web site and talking with different shops, that most of the trouble with Gen II AutoShifts is electrical. What I didn't know was there is a separate fuse in the battery box for the transmission. Mine was allowing currant through but was not allowing enough voltage. Therefor the computer at the shop showed "Low Voltage" at the transmission. Anyway, up and running again and took this time to have the tranny and differential serviced with new synthetic. Been trying to get to Zapata, TX. since July to pickup my tractor, brush hog, bobcat, and mowers, etc., but between some health issues and truck conversion issues have not had much luck. Will deadhead a flatbed down. It might be a good test run. Thanks to you all for the suggestions. Dick |
