Emergency Road Service For HDTs

Towing Horse Trailers

I have been researching ERS plans for those of us that tow horse trailers with our HDTs.  The two that I found were Coachnet-equipass, and US Rider motor plan.

Both plans will tow your rig and horse trailer, and provide multiple services like jump start, flat tire assistance etc.  The big difference that I noticed was the Coachnet-equipass plan offers UNLIMITED towing and US Rider offers 100 miles.  In most cases that might not matter but in my case, I get very remote and often times I am more than 100 miles away from a qualified service facility.  That is the reason I went with Coachnet-equipass.  The only thing I didn't like and found a little curious with CoachNet, was the requirement that the ERS service is only available to
AQHA members!  I don't have quarter horses but still had to join for $40.00 per year to get the CoachNet program.  What is that about ??

I signed up today with CoachNet and will see what happens.
Hope this helps.....

The 100 mile limit for US Rider is meaningless, as they also have a $400 maximum.  You wont find a wrecker who will tow one of our rigs 100 miles for $400! I s there a dollar limit per tow with the AQHA deal?

Sounds like you're buying into a co-op like most other hobby groups or purchasing groups join together for.  Getting a co-op established to cater to a specific need is not easy, it takes a popular interest and a lot of lobbying and/or getting the word out before they have enough members to make an impact for discounts.

I still think that the HDT/MDT forum together on Escapees should see about approaching an ERS service for a cooperative group discount.  I'd be willing to pay $100 a year if I could get my trailers and trucks under the program.  From the experiences I've had with other tow contract services, the worst I'd have is a redundant chance of calling one to get me 1/2 there, then calling another to get me the rest of the way.  A single out of pocket tow with the vehicles we're talking about here will run into the mid 3 figures without any distance at all.  Making sure livestock is a part of the forum's ERS agreement should not be that out of the question to get a service agreement to.

The equipass/aqha site states "Unlimited Towing,  Towing your disabled vehicle and horse trailer to the nearest qualified repair facility."  No $$ limit listed that I could find.

The co-op idea is great.  I would jump all over that.  The service I just signed up for is costing me $210.00 per year including the AQHA membership.  It is worth it if I ever need it but so far, in 4 years I haven't needed it.  My turn may be just around the next corner ???

The FAQ says no $ limit, so that is great coverage.  It is quite a bit more money, than US Rider when you factor in joining AQHA.  After being burned by breakdowns (mostly in the Ford) while pulling horses, I might buy both.
