Would anyone know where I would be able to find personal truck insurance for my 1991 Freightliner cabover.  My broker for my pickup and trailers will not be able to do it through them.  Any suggestions would be great.
Thank You

State Farm in Stoney Plain can help you out.  If you're in the South, there should be an office close to you.  Stoney is the furthest North though.  I didn't think to keep a name.

Check the Explorer Club.  They do RV insurance and operate in Alberta.  We used them for many years when we were based in Ontario.  A they specialize in RV insurance, they may have experience in insuring a private HDT.

We used State Farm.

They even have a special setting on their computer when you are getting a quote for HDT recreational units.

I find this whole insurance company issue to be very frustrating.  The Alberta Motor Association would not even give me a quote for our T-600 pulling our 5-wheel.

Yes it is a little hard.  State farm is quoted me around $2000.00 a year.  I have not tried AMA yet as you have to go into there office to get a quote if you are not a member.  I am waiting to here from a company in Edmonton that mainly does commercial insurance but they do personal on these trucks as well.  Will update when I find out.

I find this whole insurance company issue to be very frustrating.  The Alberta Motor Association would not even give me a quote for our T-600 pulling our 5-wheel.

I had the same type of encounter with the local branch, but a call to Edmonton Main branch yielded a better result.  The secret seems to be perseverance.  If you don't get the answer you want, try tomorrow . AMA local wouldn't even sell me plates, as they don't do commercial.  I have used the AMA RV Plus in the past, but can wait to hear the response on the phone over a HDT.

Alberta doesn't seem to have anything "carved in stone", so it comes down to the flavour of the day for the person behind the desk.  I haven't found any documentation online to print out to prove a point either way.  Some jurisdictions have a "must have" list of things to qualify for personal use vs. commercial, but Alberta doesn't even use that.

I believe mine is insured with Axa, but I am not sure.  I am working up by Bonnyville right now, but will be home next week.  I will have a look and post up the details then along with broker info.

We are with State Farm for the truck only at this point.  Everything *except* collision is a little over $900 per year.  Once we get a trailer I will put collision on the truck too.  The truck is registered as a motorhome in Ontario.

Hey Bigstick
Those E-mails might be mighty handy to have.  If you would not mind could you forward me a copy?  I see you are new and driving an international.  I don't suppose you are from Medicine Hat with a blue International and pulling a Cougar 5th are you?  I have seen one a few times in the last month about 4 blocks from my house parked on the street, but I never seem to find time to stop and see if I can find the guy to talk to.

Have you looked at Aviva?  I've got some friends with a custom conversion and Aviva was good to them.  (They're very good to me, too!)
