Sibernut (Ron) had with Progressive Insurance

Here is a dialog Sibernut (Ron) had with Progressive Insurance in regards to to what extent his Volvo 610 is covered when not towing his RV.

Sibernut to Progressive:
NOBODY at Progressive will put in writing exactly when my vehicle is covered and when it is NOT.  All I get from supposedly "Supervisory Personnel" in the RV dept is smoke & mirrors. Example of conversations I have had: (P:) your vehicle is only covered when pulling the trailer (Me:) How about if I go shopping while camping, not towing the trailer?  (P;) Well, I guess that would be covered, like when you are away  (Me:) Well, how about if I drive the Volvo to get fuel, or for repairs near my home?  That would be related to RV use, right? (P:) we would have to address that if a claim occurs.

WHAT KIND OF CRUMMY "RUNNING BAREFOOT IF WE FEEL LIKE IT" IS THAT?????
I "GUESS" IT WOULD BE COVERED ??????????????????????

I am happy with Progressive but scared to death every time I drive.
Please connect me with someone who KNOWS RV coverage and has the testicles to put in writing exactly when I am covered & I'll be your fan.
How about "You are covered for use of the vehicle unless for commercial purposes or for compensation of any kind". Thank you.

Progressive to Sibernut (Ron):
Dear Mr. Knight,

Thank you for your e-mail.  I have reviewed your policy and would be happy to assist.

Your motorhome policy covers your 2000 Volvo while it is pulling the travel trailer the entire time both are connected.

In the event that you separate the travel trailer from the Volvo, your Volvo is covered under the motorhome policy in the following instances:

- Local transportation while the travel trailer is parked. Thus if you need to go to a local market or mall to shop, your Volvo is covered. We understand that the Volvo is your primary mode of transportation while vacationing.
- Maintenance
- Fueling.

The Volvo is not covered if you separate it from the travel trailer and use it for commercial or work related purposes.  This may include, but not limited to, going between work locations to using the trailer to haul materials.

If you need anything further, you may contact your independent agent or broker, Fred Meyer at 410-477-0900, for personalized service on your Progressive policy.  You can always access your policy information at progressiveagent.com.

Sibernut to Progressive:
Best reply I have ever gotten, thank you.

How about if it is being used locally to my home, not while on vacation but not engaged in any commercial activity?  Not as an "everyday driver", but for example if I needed to pick up a large item I bought that would not fit in a car trunk?

Progressive to Sibernut (Ron):
Hello Mr. Knight,

Thank you for your reply.  I am happy that I was able to clarify the policy a little better for you.

The acceptability of a Heavy Duty Towing Vehicle into the motorhome program is entirely dependant on it being used for vacation purposes along with a travel trailer.  Unfortunately, because of this, your Volvo would not be covered for normal daily driving to and from a store to pick up items that may not fit into your other vehicles.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reply to this e-mail or contact us at 1-800-PROGRESSIVE (1-800-776-4737).  Our Customer Service Representatives are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist you.
